Focus Group testing of translations for linguistic or cultural appropriateness.
Language Professionals maintains a panel of experienced facilitators for
focus groups from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. We have
recently completed projects for ASIC (3 languages) and Centrelink (12
languages).

The scope of linguistic consultancy projects can vary greatly and may
include the identification of a clients linguistic staff requirements,
e.g. advising on the level and specialisation expected of bilingual professionals
(translators, interpreters, call centre operators, presenters, etc.),
subsequent design and coordination of training courses and final assessment/recommendation.
In other cases it may involve identifying the mode of interpreting, recommended
choice, costing and arrangement of technical equipment, and selection
of a team of interpreters, for conferences, congresses, conventions and
the like. Past projects include the recruitment and training of 18 full-time
interpreters/TV presenters in Bahasa Indonesia, Japanese and Mandarin,
as well as the recruitment of 20 multilingual call centre operators.

Our recruitment-specific linguistic competency assessment system is based
on detailed descriptors of the different language proficiency levels (using
reading, writing, listening and speaking skills), enabling all users (including
clients & applicants) to distinguish between the various competency
levels. Our assessment framework has been created by some of Australias
most distinguished linguists and aims to match the level of linguistic
competence of a suitable candidate to a particular position. The selected
contextual situations and vocabulary are appropriate to the requirements
of the workplace needs, whether general or specialised (eg for call centres,
banking).
