In 1997, Language Professionals made the strategic decision to transfer its conference interpreting section to a new company, PciO International. Successful communication in multilingual international conferences is the prime concern of Max Doerfler and Bertold Schmitt, the managing partners of PciO International, both members of the A.I.I.C. (International Association of Conference Interpreters), the only world-wide association of professional conference interpreters. Bertold brings with him a wealth of expertise after spending over 10 years successfully providing conference interpreting and organising services to European clients from his former Brussels base. The aim of PciO International is to prominently position itself in the Australasian market as a comprehensive, one-stop shop conference service provider of the highest quality and unprecedented standard, by contracting the best possible service individual professionals can offer, while at the same time promoting and ensuring full contractual transparency for conference organisers. Some of the interpreting projects we have organised this year are listed further down this page. Our conference interpreters are experienced professionals, with most being members of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC). Conference interpreting requires a wide range of skills in addition to language fluency, but it also implies the ability to work in a team. Experienced conference interpreters constantly work in international meetings and are intimately aware of many of the factors that are critical for the success of a conference. Thus they are frequently asked to compose and coordinate teams of interpreters, to act as the contact person for the team during the meeting, and to provide advice as to the choice of interpreting equipment, technicians and many other communication related aspects of a conference. Typically, we prefer to offer the interpreters the opportunity to prepare ahead of time by reading literature that is relevant and associated with your conference. This allows for the development of terms for the glossary and technical terminology to be used. A highly effective conference can be achieved if the preparation is thorough and planned. To discuss future
conference interpreting requirements with any interested person or organisation,
please contact Max or Bertold on (02) 9358 4188. |

Dear Max and Bertold, On behalf of the World Lottery Association and SA Lotteries, I thank you for helping to make the 2002 World Lottery Association Congress an outstanding success. Feedback to date from the delegates has been extremely positive, with many commenting that it was the best Congress yet. Such acclaim would not have been possible without the support of a great team, and I thank you and your interpreters for the key role you played in helping us achieve this excellent result. I hope to have the opportunity to work with you again in the future. Congress Director |
